As any good business owner knows, time is money and therefore knows that wasted time is wasted money. Since the introduction of the smartphone, mobile applications have flooded the market in their millions. Many of these applications or ‘apps’ can now be used for conducting and becoming more proactive in your business operations. What’s more, these apps can be downloaded for free or at a fraction of the cost of employing professional services, allowing you to become more efficient at saving time and money. Below we’ve put together a few of the most useful apps on the market for small businesses.
Track your expenses – iXpenseIt (Expense + Income = Cashflow with Budget) (Free; £2.99 for full version)
Staying on top of your expenses, especially when always on the go, can be difficult. Receipts can be easily lost and it becomes much harder to claim your expenses back if needed. This app allows you to take a snapshot of your receipts and generate an expense report all on your phone. This way you’ll never lose another receipt. The report can be exported into a variety of different formats for use on home or workspaces and is a great visual tool for seeing your monthly outgoings.
Stay Connected – Various Applications – Free
Don’t forget, social media is available and accessible everywhere. The main social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin all have free apps to download for all mobile platforms, allowing you to be social on the go. There are even apps such as Hootsuite which synchronise your social media accounts and take the work out of updating them for you. Update your customers as and when you need to and stay connected.
Digital Sharing – Dropbox – Free
Need to share important documents, accessible anywhere, anytime? Share your files with colleagues and others by using Dropbox, the app that lets you share files across any computer operating system and any mobile device. With up to 2GB of Cloud space for free, you and your colleagues can access your documents from anywhere in the world. Not only do you minimise the amount of storage you travel with – CDs, USBs, portable hard drives – but you have increased reassurance knowing that if any one of these mediums fail you can still access your files online.
Blog, blog, blog – WordPress – Free
Blogging is another major player amongst the big social media networks. Use this app to update your blogs on the go or even start a new one – moderate, edit, or reply to comments while you’re in the middle of what you really want to talk about, showing that it’s never been easier to stay in touch with your readers and you’ll never forget a blog post idea again. Write, add photos, check your spelling, and even create links without having to write any technical HTML jargon.
Mobile Creative Thinking – Evernote – Free
As well as being a super organiser, the Evernote app lets you keep track of anything and everything you want. You can write notes, record voice memos, ideas, or snapshots on your smartphone, and it syncs them with your computer (PC or Mac). You can take a snapshot of an image that has text and find that Evernote allows you to make the text in that image searchable. You can link photos to words, words to ideas, and link those ideas to your business. Very useful for creative minds.
There are plenty more apps that can be adapted and be applicable for your business. Just remember, whatever your business needs, there’s probably an app for it.
