Britain’s Company Formation Owners Need a Break

The rise in employee stress levels since the recession began has been well documented; the threat of redundancy, pay cuts and pay freezes has left the UK’s workforce exhausted and stressed out. But what about business owners? While many feel they are up in their ivory tower protecting their own assets, a recent report which found that over fifty per cent all company formation owners feel ‘stressed’, would prove that they are wrong.

Indeed the stress of running their own company and fears of future economic instability compounded by the pressure of securing jobs for their workforce, have left the nation’s business owners close to breaking point according to a report by business consultants A.M Associates.

The report, which involved over 350 small company owners, found that over fifty per cent of all business owners feel their stress levels have increased compared to last year. This could be a consequence of many factors, namely the fact that in a context where access to finance in restricted, many company owners are supporting their business with their own personal savings and credit.
Alistair Mountford, managing director of A.M. Associates, comments; “Running a business in the current economic climate comes with many stresses. However, from the feedback we have received during this report, it is clear that the most stressful elements are financial and the pressure of being responsible for their employee’s jobs. It is vital business owners take a step back every once in a while and, if necessary, seek help and advice from outside of their business.”
