Overdue Company Accounts: Dissolve to avoid the penalty
If a company files accounts with Companies House after the due date it is liable to pay a penalty fee, the size of which depends on how late the accounts were filed:
(for private companies)
Less than 1 month: £150
1- 3 months: £375
3- 6 months: £750
6 months +: £1500
A company can normally avoid this penalty by filing (and having Companies House accept) a company dissolution rather than the overdue accounts. Obviously this results in the closure of the company.
