Registered Office, Service Address and Residential Address: Confused?

When forming a Limited Company it may seem as though a plethora of different addresses are requested of you. Understandably, there seems to be some confusion based around exactly how these addresses differ. So here you go:

Registered Office

• The official address for your limited company held by Companies House

• Mail from HMRC and Companies House will be sent here

• It can be a Residential Address

• Must be based in the UK

• The company does not need to be based here

• It is compulsory

• Is on the public register

Service Address

• The official address for your limited company director held by Companies House

• Mail from HMRC and Companies House will be sent here

• It can be the Registered Office

• It can be a Residential Address

• It can be based anywhere in the world

• The company does not need to be based here

• It is compulsory

• Is on the public register

Residential Address

• Residential Address for limited company director

• Must be a Residential Address (addresses with “unit”, “suite” or “po box” will most likely be rejected by Companies House

• It can be the Registered Office

• It can be the Service Address

• It can be based anywhere in the world

• The company does not need to be based here

• It is compulsory

• Is not on the public register (unless the same address is being used as the Registered Office or Service Address)
