Rise in Mums Considering Company Formation

When asked for the main reason most entrepreneurs want to form their own company, most state that it is because they want a more flexible working life. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that forming their own company is a dream for many mothers. However, what may be a little surprising is the fact that the number of mothers considering company formation, has risen by almost 30% during the recession.

Website ‘Mumsnet’ conducted some research that found that a significant amount of new mothers felt unsupported by their employers, while over 33% felt the recession has increased the pressure on them to work longer hours, in order to avoid redundancy. Consequently, it is not surprising that the number of mothers looking to develop a business that fits into their home life has increased.

Susanna Moss, former buying executive for a large department store and mother of two comments; “ When I went back to work after having my first child it was extremely difficult and after the second it seemed impossible. I decided to develop my own organic range of children’s clothing and I haven’t looked back.”
